SUMMARY
·         Aram gets to ride the horse alone.
·         It doesn’t go well because he did not know how to control the horse and fell down.
·         The horse runs away and the boys took about half an hour to find it again.
·         Mourad hid the horse in an old barn in a deserted vineyard.
·         He instructed Aram to tell everyone that they had started riding the horse only that morning only.
·         Aram, however was convinced that Mourad had had the horse much longer than that.

7. Describe Aram’s first horse ride on the white horse.
Aram was extremely excited to ride the horse on his own. He leapt on its back but the horse refused to move. When he kicked the horse in its muscle, the horse reared and snorted and took off in frenzy. Instead of going towards the irrigation ditch, it ran towards the vineyard. Aram fell down and the horse ran way. Though Aram had always desired to ride a horse, his first ever ride was a disappointing experience
8. Where did Mourad and Aram hide the horse and why?
The boys walked the horse quietly to the barn of a deserted vineyard. Mourad did not want anyone to know that he had been hiding the horse there for several days. For the sake of their tribe’s honour, he didn’t want to be caught and called liars.

SUMMARY

That same day, Uncle Khosrove and a farmer named John Byro came to Aram’s house.
He complained that he had lost his white horse and was suffering a great deal
Uncle Khosrove shut him up by saying it was no harm compared to the loss of one’s homeland.

9. Who was John Byro? Why was he troubled?
John Byro was an Assyrian farmer who, out of loneliness, had learned to speak Armenian. He was distressed because his white horse had been stolen a month ago. The horse cost his sixty dollars and his left leg hurt because of all the walking. His surrey was also of no use without a horse.

10. How did Aram’s mother explain Uncle Khosrove’s behavior?
Uncle Khosrove was short-tempered, irritable and very impatient. However, Aram’s mother explained that he had a gentle heart. He was homesick and regretted being large man who could do nothing for his tribe. This refers to the plight of Armenian immigrants who were uprooted from their country.

SUMMARY

·         Aram informed Mourad about John Byro’s troubles
·         However, he did not want to return the horse until he had learned to ride.
·         Mourad told him that it would take at least one full year for him but they would return the horse after six months.
·         For two weeks, the boys rode the horse early in the morning.
·         Each time the horse threw Aram off and ran away.
·         One morning, they met John Byro.
·         He examined the horse, said it was exactly like his own horse
·         However, due to the reputation of the Garoghlanian tribe which was known for its honesty, he said that their horse was probably a twin of his horse.
·         The very next morning, the boys quietly left the horse in John Byro’s vineyard.
·         Later that day, John seemed to be very pleased and shared the news of the return of his horse with Aram’s mother.
·         Uncle Khosrove was again heard shouting that it was no harm!

11. “ A suspicious man would believe his eyes instead of his heart.” Who said these words and why?
These words were said by John Byro after he examined the white horse that Mourad claimed as his own. Byro was convinced that the horse was exactly like the one he lost but he has great respect for the Garoghalian tribe which was known for its honesty. Thus, he refused to believe that the horse was stolen from him and simply said that it was possibly a twin of his horse
