Good morning students.Today we are continuing with our chapter named THE TIGER KING from the supplementary book Vistas.

In the last class we discussed the first three parts of the story. In this period we will discuss last two parts of the story.

Before moving ahead let us see the learning objectives of this chapter.
Learning Objective:
The students will be able to
·                   Familiarise themselves with the sequence of events that led to Tiger King being known by that title.  
·                        Uncover and explain motive behind Tiger King's decision to kill a hundred tigers. 
·                     Identify instances when the king's decisions seemed irrational and how his attendants acted out our fear. 
·                   Realise the need to sustain ecological balance instead of exploiting resources for self-preservation
·                       Absorb the need to be a tolerant and respectful leader. 
·                       Raise awareness to conserve wildlife.



Part 4
·         Within 10 years, Maharaja killed 70 tigers and the population of tigers became extinct in the kingdom.
·         Now, Maharaja expressed the desire to get married.
·         Summoned Dewan to search a girl in the royal family of a state with a large tiger population.
·         Dewan found a girl, Maharaja married her and killed five to six tigers each time he visited his in-laws.
·         99 tigers were killed so far.

Part 5:
·         Maharaja was now excited to kill that last tiger.
·         No tiger was left in the in-law’s kingdom as well. Impossible to locate any tiger anywhere.
·         Maharaja became gloomy but soon heard a news of sheep disappearing from the village and hence, traces of a tiger there.
·         Maharaja was very excited and announced three years exemption from all taxes.
·         Days passed, tiger wasn’t found, Maharaja got furious and ordered to double the land tax.
·         Dewan was convinced that if Maharaja doesn’t find the tiger, the result could be catastrophic.
·         Dewan found a tiger hidden in his house.
·         He drove the tiger to the forest for Maharaja to hunt it but the tiger refused to come out.
·         The following day, the king saw the tiger and aimed at it. Elated, he left in haste.
·         Hunters went near the tiger and found it to be alive as the bullet had missed it.
·         The hunters then shot the tiger and killed it.
·         Maharaja resumed to other work with a sense of satisfaction and celebrated his son’s third birthday.
·         Gifted him a wooden tiger carved by an unskilled carpenter with slivers all over.
·         One of those slivers pierced Maharaja’s hand and infected his arm resulting in his death.
·         Hundredth tiger took its revenge.
